Purpose of This Blog

Hello my name is Erica; I created this blog in order to help those of you who love vintage and pinup just like me. When I decided that I wanted to wear vintage clothing and use antique furniture I decided to go out and find places to buy them. At first it was hard because I didn't know where to start. But after a year of searching I have learned that high end boutiques aren't the only places with vintage treasures. I will be posting about the places I have visited, as well as the objects I have found there. As well as the clothing items I have that my mother and I sewed together. Oh and I live in Southern California so that is where most of the places are going to be located.

Family Treasures

Besides going out to buy antiques or making your own vintage clothing, there is another way you can come upon old treasure. That is through family, For instance some of my most valued items was passed down from my grandparents. Such as...

This Remington Rand Type writer, which still works and is valued around 50 bucks on the internet.

Or this jewelry box, which has a breath taking story behind it.

These treasures are the items that make me value each and every piece I come to own because everything has its own story. But what makes these different is it keeps me in touch with my family's history and I will never depart from them. Perhaps your ancestors have left your family with some treasures, I suggest for you all to charish them.

How to make your own vintage dresses...

Alrighty, I know some of you guys don't have access to places such as the Rose Bowl like I do. So I wanted to show you guys that if you are good with a sewing machine or are willing to learn, another option is to make vintage clothing your self. The advantage to this is the clothing will fit your body, and for those of you who cant stand wearing clothes that were preowned you wouldn't have to.
Here are some of the sewing patterns I have purchased from my local Joanns and the fabrics I have bought for each of them.
Photobucket

The pattern above is in the Vogue catalog under the catagory of vintage vogue.

This pattern is from the catalog Simplicity, I forgot what catagory though.

Now this top and bottom pattern are from the Butterick catalog under the retro Butterick catagory.

Now these are just the patterns I have, there are tons more and are worth buying.Im in the process of making one dress and have already accomplished another. So far the pattern hasnt let me down and I have gotten tons of complements on my finished dress. So go out there folks and start sewing.

Rose Bowl Swap Meet- Pasadena

I love this swat meet, it is amazing. It happens every second Sunday of the month. It is huge and there are a lot of vintage vendors. You can find everything from furniture, to records, sheets, jewelry, music instruments, kitchen ware, newspapers, to actual vintage clothing or reproduction stands, etc. For more informaion on this swap meet visit their website at http://www.rgcshows.com/

Now I will show you some of the items I have gotten from this swap meet and yes I am aware the pics aren’t that clear. Ill retake them soon...

This necklace is a very unique locket, it opens up with space for four pics. It is great and I wear it all the time.

Now this pearl set I believe was such a deal, I got the whole set together for three bucks.

this is a night gown I got the first time I ever went to the rose bowl swap meet, it is beautiful but see through.

Now this is a lace robe, it is long. It reaches my toes but comes in handy when you dont want to be seen.
Photobucket

This is a very interesting dress, I couldnt figure out what side was the front at first. I then realized the zipper goes in front and that it is meant to be worn with an undershirt.
Photobucket

Ok this has got to be my absolute favorite dress of all, it is very comfortable. But a slip is needed.

These are my collection of hankeys, they come in handy in the fall and winter when I tend to catch a cold.

this is another type of robe, I couldn't resist.

Now this here is an antique jewelry box that I thought was amazing. After cleaning it up and making it shine I gave it as a gift to a friend.
Now these were just a few things I have purchased at the Rose Bowl swamp meet, there are billions of cool stuff there. I truly recommend all of you guys to visit it, it is a great experience and you can buy some amazing treasures.
